EDIT:
In 2015, I finally decided to rehash this old beauty. Made it bigger, fixed some things that were bothering me, and added this cool vignette thing.

WIP Stages

So basically this picture was a huge breakthrough for me.

There is no fancy story behind this picture, no real reason for the fact that she's a faerie. The only story I have for you is the story of how this picture is here today.

I have been part of a Tinychat room for the SPG fandom for a while now, and there are often times when people get on cam and use the desktop view to basically livestream their art for us. One day I decided to join in.
I didn't know what to work on, so I chose an old faerie sketch from 2011. I dunno why I sketched a faerie, it was a year ago. But that day in the chat, I just worked with it a little here and there... and then more... and more... and more.
And now here we are after 3 or 4 days of work.

This is my first coloured digital painting since January. This is my first digital painting of a body done without a reference (well, it's difficult to use a reference for a faerie because they're anatomy is surely different). This is the first time I've drawn wings that actually overlap correctly and have a semblance to actual insect wings. And this is the first picture in quite a long time that I'm actually very proud of.

Yeah, I've been doing commissions, fanart, and I have a lot of unfinished portraits in my folders. But that's all very different. For one, the commissions and fanart are cell-shaded with lineart, very different from a digital painting.
And the portraits I can just barf out after a few days of work. All accurate and impressive, but boring. Black and white, no creativity, just different faces.

So now working with a colour pallet that developed naturally and a subject I was no longer familiar with, to suddenly produce something good is a huge boost in my self-esteem.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

P.S. May I remind you of the last time I drew a faerie? Bit of a difference in skill level, wouldn't you say?

That "last time I drew a faerie" is actually really good ... maybe different skill level but something really good about the gesture of it. I daresay although I respect the completeness of this drawing, I really really like the old one!
